15-year-old boy dies after being shot at Railroad Park

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation.{} The victim, 15-year-old Jermaine Walton, was found Sunday at Railroad Park near 14th Street South.{}

According to police, Walton suffered from a gunshot wound.{} He was taken to UAB Hospital for treatment.{} Walton died at approximately 4:45 a.m. Monday.{}

Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper says, "This is an active investigation where we're calling on the public to give us the information we need.{} I understand that many people are focusing on the location but let's not forget the victim.{} We've had hundreds of thousands of people to visit and enjoy the park but it only takes on troublemaker to ruin it for others."{}

No arrests have been made in the case.{} This is the first shooting since Railroad Pak opened in 2010.
