18-wheeler hauling hazardous material turned over near Tuscaloosa

A 18-wheeler tanker truck turned on its side at the Buttermilk Road exit on Interstate 59 on Tuesday morning.

Tuscaloosa Police and Fire Departments responded to the accident at 10:09 a.m. and discovered that the truck was spilling a hazardous material, DDE-4 cleaning solvent, that it was hauling.{} A hazmat crew was called to clean up the spill.

The driver of the truck said he was coming off the I-59 exit ramp and was turning towards the truck stop when he saw an approaching car that appeared as though would not stop, causing him to hit his breaks.{} The sudden stop caused the truck's load to shift which led to the truck turning over on its side.

The interstate remained open after the accident, and there were no reports of injuries.
