25-Year-Old accused of breaking into car
ANNISTON - AL —
Anniston Police have charged 25-year-old Kayleigh Danielle Pettus with one count of unlawfully breaking and entering a vehicle.
Investigators say on Sunday evening, a 37-year-old woman reported that her vehicle had been broken into while at the Kangaroo gas station on Lagarde Avenue. The victim entered the store to pay for gas and returned to the vehicle to find her cell phone and Cracker Barrel work jacket missing from the vehicle. The responding officers was able to look at the surveillance footage from the store and captured a woman removing items from the victim's vehicle and run to a burgundy Nissan Altima. Later that evening, the husband of the victim called Anniston Police Department and told detectives someone had called him to meet them at the Walgreen's on Quintard Avenue to get the property back. When officers arrived at Walgreen's, officers say Pettus tried to leave the scene on foot. She was captured a short distance away. A man in the car told officers the stolen items were in the passenger side floorboard. The items were retrieved.
Pettus is in the Anniston city jail.
