The last of three juveniles from Texas wanted for stealing a vehicle in Northport Friday has been apprehended by law enforcement, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office reports.
Deputies responded to a call of a stolen vehicle out of Coker at around 6:30 p.m., and while en route to the location, they spotted the suspect driving the aforementioned vehicle and attempted to stop him.
The 16-year-old male refused to stop for the deputies and a chase proceeded on Highway 82 east near Rose Boulevard. The suspect reportedly drove through the parking lot of Tractor Supply near Harper Rd. then continued through the parking lots of two fast food restaurants before crossing the median of the highway, hitting a deputy's cruiser in the process.
The pursuit ended after the teen wrecked the stolen vehicle into a catch pond outside a Home Accents store. Deputies found the suspect suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and transported him to DCH Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
The deputy involved in the accident with the fleeing juvenile was also transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries sustained in the wreck.
According to a news release, Northport Police Department will be investigating the accident, and the case has been turned over to homicide detectives.
An update on the incident is expected to be delivered Sunday morning.
Earlier in the day, a Hispanic male and female wanted in connection to the original stolen vehicle and for other crimes in Texas were taken into custody.
