4-year-old dead; toddler shot, 2 adults injured as result of Birmingham shooting
BIRMINGHAM - AL —
Birmingham Police say a 4-year-old is dead and three others are injured, including a 2-year-old, as a result of gunfire Saturday night.
The Jefferson County Coroner's office says a group of people were leaving a community event in the Gate City community around 8:00 p.m. when shots broke out. Two adult females were grazed by bullets and a 2-year-old was shot in the leg on Joppa Court. Sgt. Williams with the Birmingham Police says their injuries are not life-threatening.
About two blocks away from the shooting, a car struck a 4-year-old child as the group of people fled the shooting. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the child as Deonte Mixon. The boy was transported to Children's Hospital, where he later died.
A candlelight vigil will be tonight at 7:00 for Deonte Mixon.
So far, no arrests have been made. Birmingham Police are continuing to investigate the shooting, as well as Mixon's death.
