The No. 1 team in college football landed a similarly-ranked prospect Thursday when 5-star defensive end De'Shawn Hand committed to Alabama.
Hand, a 6-foot-4, 254-pound prospect out of Woodbridge, Va., announced his decision at his high school on live television, choosing the Crimson Tide over Michigan and Florida.
"I will be attending the University of Alabama," Hand said with an ear-to-ear grin before plopping an Alabama hat on his head.
The commitment was Nick Saban and company's 23rd for the Class of 2014, which was already rated the top-ranked recruiting class in the country by ESPN, Rivals.com and 247Sports. Alabama's current stockpile of star-studded prospects included players from 11 different states from across the nation, and Virginia became the 12th with Hand's announcement.
Hand joins fellow 5-star Cameron Robinson,, a 6-foot-5, 330-pound offensive lineman from West Monroe, La. and arguably the top prospect in the country, atop the list of the Crimson Tide's crop of 2014 commitments. Robinson committed to Alabama Sept. 4.
