The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says a 7-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool Saturday night.
Chief Deputy Randy Christian says Forestdale Fire Department responded to Royal Orleans Apartments on Crabapple Lane about a possible child drowning. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office received the call around 8:10 p.m. and deputies were on the scene within thirty seconds. The child was found in the pool and was unresponsive. Forestdale Fire transported the child to Children's of Alabama, where he was pronounced dead.
The boy's father had last seen him about thirty minutes before the accident. The child told him he was going swimming in the pool, where there was no lifeguard and nobody else present.
Foul play is not suspected.
We have a crew on the way to the scene and will update you with more information as it becomes available.
