A victory for animal advocates in Montgomery Wednesday

During a fiery meeting in front of the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners Wednesday, animal advocates protested new proposed rules that could have caused nonprofit spay and neuter animal clinics to close their doors.

The board unanimously voted against the proposed changes, which would prohibit non-veterinarians from hiring veterinarians and would prohibit non-veterinarians, including nonprofit groups, from owning veterinarian equipment.

There are four low-cost spay and neuter animal clinics statewide.
