BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The old Adams Inn in downtown Birmingham is going down Wednesday as demolition crews began knocking the final pieces of the still-standing building to the ground, ABC 33/40 reporter Marissa Mitchell has learned.
The hotel, which has been the source of crime and fires, some even fatal, since being condemned years ago, will be soon gone, clearing the way for a new development. Demolition work began in late February, less than a month after a man died in a fire at the hotel.
Birmingham police have been on around-the-clock security detail at the property in an effort to prevent any further incidents at the location until the hotel is completely gone.
ABC 33/40 will have the latest on the demolition work on the news at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. Watch the newscasts live online by clicking here.
