Added security at Regions Field, Railroad Park

Birmingham police officers continue heightened patrol at the new Regions Field and Railroad Park.

Police spokesperson Sgt. Johnny Williams says at Friday's Barons game--and throughout the season--there will be more officers walking the area, surveying the area on mounted patrol and using the department's new skywatch tower.

Some people say they hope these activities and the added police presence will bring new energy and people to enjoy the area.

"Bringing people together and building a sense of community, I hope that it starts there so that we can work on building a better city and life for everybody in Birmingham," park visitor Hope Hamilton says.

Birmingham Police say continued construction around Regions Field is a main issue. However--the department reports no crime--arrests--or break-ins during the Barons Opening Day this week.
