BIRMINGHAM - AL — After several weeks of going without air conditioning, it is finally cooler in the downtown Birmingham Public Library. The air conditioning unit has been repaired. Beginning Saturday June 21, the library will return to normal business hours. The library will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday. On Monday and Tuesday, the library will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Wednesday thru Friday, the library will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The downtown library adjusted its hours in May to cope with the warmer temperatures. A spokeswoman says during the cold snap earlier this year, four coils ruptured and had to be replaced. Parts to repair the system had to be made and because the same thing happened to other businesses, there was a high demand for new coils.
