Alabama Marine Police are calling the drowning deaths of three children, including two young boys, over the Memorial Day weekend "unusual."In Winston County, a 7-year-old boy died after slipping into the deep water of Smith Lake while he was wading with his younger brother during a family trip.In Pell City, a 5-year-old boy drowned at Lakeside Park during a family gathering on the shore of Logan Martin Lake. Another young child died in Randolph County. While tragic, authorities want the unfortunate incidents to serve as a reminder to parents to ensure their children wear properly-fitted, Coast Guard-approved life jackets when around water this summer. The life preservers vary in prices, but the average cost is around $35, police said.Marine police also recommend parents enroll their children in swimming lessons, if possible. It's also recommended that new swimmers become accustom to both pool and lake/river water so they can learn the varying conditions of each.
