Pilot Injured in Plane Crash

A pilot, flying a plane registered to an Alabama man, was injured when he crash-landed Wednesday in a hay field in eastern Clarke County in Mississippi. FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen says the Cessna 172 crashed about 11:30 a.m. near the Matherville community outside Shubuta. The agency is investigating.{}{} {}According to a Mississippi news station, the 30-year-old pilot was airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson after being treated at a hospital in Waynesboro.{}{} {}The plane is registered to Freddie McCall of Brewton, Alabama. The hospital says McCall was being treated in the emergency room Wednesday evening, only describing his condition as "stable."{}{} {}The station reports the plane was flying from Brewton to Waynesboro, Miss., when the pilot reported engine problems. The pilot landed in the field and was found with a head injury by a farmer plowing nearby.
