Alabama pitcher Spencer Turnbull drafted by Detroit Tigers

TUSCALOOSA - AL — Spencer Turnbull didn't have to wait long.The Detroit Tigers selected the Alabama right-handed pitcher in the second round, with the 63rd pick of the Major League Baseball draft. Turnbull is the first Tide pitcher to be selected in the first two rounds in four years.Jimmy Nelson was drafted in the second round by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2010.The 6-foot-2, 230 pound Turnbull was 5-7 with a 2.22 ERA in 15 starts last season. He struck out 61 in 93.1 innings pitched in 2014.Ardmore High School pitcher Cody Reed was the first player with ties to the state to be drafted when the Arizona Diamondbacks picked him in the second round, No. 54 overall.
