Alabama Power crews to assist Atlantic Coast states as they prep for Hurricane Sandy
BIRMINGHAM - AL —
Alabama Power crews will be rolling out Saturday to provide assistance on the East coast as they prepare for the arrival of Hurricane Sandy.
Sandy is expected to hit the mid-Atlantic states next week and Alabama Power will help fellow utilities with the coming restoration efforts.
Alabama Power will have 365 employees -- 239 line crew personnel and 126 logistics and support workers -- headed to the Washington, DC area. They will be coming from many different offices and crew headquarters from around the state, and they are expected to rendezvous at a safe staging area by Sunday evening.
Their length of stay has yet to be determined, but crews are packed for a 10-day stint.
Alabama Power will also be sending personnel to Northern Virginia for assistance.
