Alabama seeks NCLB exemption

{} {} Alabama education leaders say they will ask that the state be exempted from part of the No Child Left Behind law. {}The goal of that section is to have all students performing at the proficient level in math and reading by 2014.{} {} {}The state will submit the request next month.{} {} {}The request is based on implementation of the state student achievement goals, called Plan 2020.{} {} That plan calls for all high school graduates to be prepared to get a job- or pass first-year courses in a university, community college, or technical school.
