      In a statement released by the University of Alabama, athletic director Mal Moore said fans can expect a much better experience using their wireless devices on game day, thanks to the newly installed Distributed Antenna System (DAS).

      "The installation of the DAS at Bryant-Denny Stadium should improve the game day experience by enabling fans in the stadium to stay connected and share the incredible experience of a University of Alabama game with their family and friends via their mobile devices," Moore said in the statement.

      According to wikipedia, the DAS system uses a group of low-power antennas to replace a single antenna radiating at high power to cover the same area.{}

      In Alabama's case, they have installed 75 antennas around Tuscaloosa and on campus to increase coverage and reliability.

      AT&T, the university's main cellular provider sponsor, will partner with Verizon Wireless in the operation of the network.

      Major League Baseball's Miami Marlins installed a similar system inside their new Marlins Park, a park that cost over $600 million to build.
