Alabaster water tower considered an eye sore by some; others say its a reflection of history

Cities like Alabaster are seeing major growth thanks in part to a low teacher to student ratio, low unemployment rate, and high median income.{}{} {} {}The added attention the city is getting is welcomed, but that also means structures like the Siluria water tower are also under greater scrutiny.{}"We would love to make it nice looking but the preliminary estimates that we received {}to paint it were about $150,000.00," said Alabaster Mayor Marty Handlon.{}The exterior of the tower is rusty and discolored. {}Some often refer to it as an eye sore.{}"It has a certain amount of charm. We would love to have it on a historical landmark registry. {} So, hopefully we can do what we can in the future to get it recognized, " said Handlon.{}
