ALDOT plans for "easier flow" at Highway 280 and 119

ALDOT is preparing for some big improvements on Highway 280.

At the intersection of US-280 and{}SR-119, ALDOT wants to put double left turning lanes in both directions on US-280. The roads will also be widened to make way for double left turn lanes and two through lanes going in both directions of SR-119.

Furthermore, ALDOT will put in a right turn lane on US-280 West at the intersection.

Lance Taylor says there are a handful of intersections on US-280 that need easier flow, but this particular intersection needs it badly.

"Anything that we can do to get additional lanes to make their traffic just takes a bigger improvement," he said. "Because there's such a heavier volume of traffic on the side streets there."

ALDOT says it will need to purchase some right-of-way land before it can start on this project.

Another topic on the table, Thursday, at the public involvement meeting at The Church at Brook Hills was proposed entrance points to US-280. Taylor says 27 points will be installed from Hollywood Boulevard to Doug Baker Boulevard. Construction for that is slated for early 2014.
