Alternatives for avoiding expected I20/59 bridge closure

We're learning more about plans to re-route traffic in the Alabama Department of Transportation's latest Interstate 20-59 bridge replacement plan.ALDOT director John Cooper tells ABC 33/40 the current plan is still in the works, but the construction on the main bridge through downtown Birmingham will close in 2016 for re-building.{}Cooper says the department will urge people to take Interstate 59 to avoid the closure altogether. But for people who have to go through downtown, Cooper suggests other options like taking 31st Street to get to surface streets or taking Carraway Boulevard to Finley Avenue to access Interstate 65.Cooper insists no one can predict which direction traffic will go, however he says ALDOT may consider putting traffic on old ramps while new ones are being constructed or reversing traffic on existing ramps.{}ALDOT will hold a public hearing later this month about the plan.
