Jefferson County drivers may soon be able to purchase and renew car tags at city halls. A proposed measure would allow cities to issue new tags and renew old ones for its citizens. Seven cities are on board with the idea.Cities would be allowed to charge a five dollar fee. It would cover the cost of the car tag system, which is being offered to all cities with no upfront fee.The bill passed the Jefferson County Delegation and no goes to the House.If it passes, Vestavia Hills' mayor says his city will get in the car tag business in April.Mountain Brook, Fultondale, Gardendale, Sylvan Springs, Leeds, Irondale and Midfield have also expressed an interest in issuing car tags.
