Animal hoarding case uncovers more than 140 animals

A tip to police uncovered a home filled with animals--alive and dead at a home on Gadsden's eastside.

Crews spent about 3 hours removing dogs, cats and numerous birds from a house in the 100 block of 8th Street North.{}Capt. Regina May says the residents of the home believed they were rescuing the animals, but maggots and mange were found in the home and the animals.

Animals have been taken into custody by the local Humane Society. So far, no one has been charged, but investigator plan to push for the felony{}cruelty to animals charge.
