Animals celebrate Halloween early with costume contest

Animals had the opportunity to celebrate Halloween a little early at the Riverchase Galleria and it was all for a good cause. The Shelby County Humane Society hosted the 2nd Annual Pet Costume Contest Saturday afternoon.

To be entered into the contest, participants had to make an in-kind donation to the homeless pets at the humane society.

ABC 33/40's Ebony Hall and Honora Gathings took part in the event and helped judge costumes.

The entries were pretty creative. A tortoise from out-of-this-world stunned the audience and took top prize and a dog with shocking blue hair walked straight out of a Dr. Seuss book.

More than 200 cats and dogs are still in need of a loving home at the Shelby County Humane Society.
