Another Gadsden man shot and killed in his car

Gadsden police said there is a strong possibility that deadly shootings Saturday and Wednesday are connected.{} Investigators said 45-year-old Willie Brown died early{}Wednesday morning after he was shot multiple times in his car in the driveway of his Kentucky Avenue home.

The shooting happened{}shortly after midnight Wednesday.{}{}{}Police said Brown went outside and got in his car when someone shot him{}with a high-powered{}automatic rifle, possibly{}an AK-47.{}{} Brown drove backwards and hit a tree stump, and his car stopped as he was unable to get away.{} Investigators said it appears the shooter was waiting outside for Brown to leave.

The other{}shooting happened shortly after midnight Saturday on the Meighan Bridge along Highway 431.{} Police said the person who shot 35-year-old Jobari Player and 53-year-old Billy Baker as they drove across the bridge also used an automatic rifle like an AK-47.{} A witness said he heard nine gunshots.

Willie Brown's neighbor, who asked not to be identified,{}said he woke up when he heard eight or nine shots around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

"I didn't think anything about it because you hear gunfire back over in yonder all the time, but this was close, like it was in my bedroom.{} I didn't get up," he said.

"I got up about 1:30 and{}I walked out [of my bedroom] and looked out the door and the police were already here and people were gathering in the streets."

{}Police said these are targeted shootings and investigators are working to determine any connections between the victims.{} The neighbor said he has no idea why someone would want to kill Willie Brown.

"He was a real good neighbor.{} He was real quiet, didn't bother nobody." the neighbor said.

"I didn't even know he was out there about half the time, unless{}I'd ride by and see him.{}{}He'd throw up his hands and wave and I'd go on.{} He was a pretty nice neighbor."
