Armed burglary suspects charged in Shelby County
SHELBY COUNTY - AL —
Shelby County deputies have arrested two men after an armed burglary.
Investigators say Saturday night, deputies were called to a report of a person shot at a house in the 31000 block of Alabama Highway 25 in Wilsonville. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the shooting occurred as a result of a homeowner returning home while it was being burglarized. One of the suspects shot the homeowner in the leg and one of the suspects was also shot by the homeowner. Both were taken to local hospital.
Deputies arrested 21-year-old Jovan Tompkins of Wilsonville. He has been formally charged with burglary first-degree and assault first-degree. He is currently being held in the Shelby County jail. Deputies also arrested 19-year-old Christopher Tompkins of Wilsonville. He has been formally charged with burglary first-degree and assault first-degree. He is also being held in the Shelby County jail. A third suspect is still in the hospital recovering from gunshot wounds. Once he is released, investigators will follow up with charging him.
