Arrest made in Crime Stoppers cold case, 2012 murder of elderly Birmingham man

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Thanks to a crucial tip from a witness in a Crime Stoppers cold case, police were able to make an arrest in the 2012 murder of an elderly Birmingham man.

Charles Mickens, 22, was arrested Tuesday and charged with capital murder for the death of 70-year-old Felix McKinney, who was killed the night of Nov. 10 at a home in the 4100 block of 49th Court North.

According to police, the murder warrant was obtained "after having a witness come forward and give relevant information that was pertinent in linking [Mickens] to this case."

Mickens is being held at the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
