Arrest made in Tuscaloosa 'Easy Money' shooting

Suspect: Eric Omar Petty

Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide unit have made an arrest in the shooting death of Marcellus Lee Brown, less than 12 hours after he was killed.Eric Omar Petty was taken into the Tuscaloosa County jail at 5:40 am Sunday morning.{} A motive in the shooting that happened on McFarland Boulevard is not clear but authorities believe it culminated in a dispute regarding a female.{} At this point, police are trying to determine whether Petty followed Brown.Here's the complete release from Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE On 8-23-2014 at 6:00pm the Tuscaloosa Police and the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit responded to a shooting at (Easy Money) 2925 McFarland Blvd east. The victim, Marcellus Lee Brown 41 yr. old male, was a customer inside the business when he was approached by a male suspect. The suspect then began to fire a handgun at the victim, with at least one round striking the victim in the chest area. The suspect then fled the scene. The victim was transported to DCH-ER where he died from his injuries. This appears to be a personal issue not involving the business, however the motive for the incident is unknown at this time. There appears to have been no robbery attempt of the business or the victim.During the course of the investigation, throughout the night, Homicide investigators were able to develop a possible suspect. Due to witness statements and evidence collected at the scene, an arrest warrant for Murder was obtained on ERIC OMAR PETTY, a 38 yr. old male. On 8-24-2014 @ 5:40am U.S Marshall Task Force Members and Homicide investigators located Petty at 918 13th street east. He was taken into custody without incident.Petty was then transported to the Tuscaloosa County Jail and held pending a $100,000.00 bond.The investigation is continuing.
