Artists are needed to fill downtown Ensley windows. Local artwork will be showcased in vacant and occupied businesses each month starting in May.
"The Windows of Downtown Ensley" will feature windows along 19th Street Ensley. The effort by the Ensley Merchant Association, REV Birmingham and Kuumba Community Art is intended to enhance the area while showcasing the work of local artists.
"The local merchant association and residents wanted to see a program where the vacant windows of this historic district were filled," said Kuumba Community Art founder Deidre Clark. "Windows of Downtown Ensley is a community-led initiative that has the potential to bring authentic, home-bred vitality to this area. We hope local community members and visitors will come back time and time again, because the exhibits are sure to be eclectic and constantly changing."
Organizers are looking for a variety of submissions. They hope students from UAB, Miles College, and Birmingham Southern will contribute. Applications can be downloaded at www.REVBirmingham.org.
