A 43-year-old Attalla man learned today he will spend the next 20 years in prison.

The trial for Allen Whitmore was scheduled to begin today when he withdrew his plea of not guilty and entered a guilty plea. He faced charges stemming from a September 2013 incident where Whitmore forced his way into an Attalla house assaulted a female victim, then stole her purse, a coin collection and jewelry. Whitmore was sentenced to 20 years in prison after his plea. {}{}{}{} District Attorney Jimmie Harp said "I am very pleased at the sentence handed down by Judge Millican in this case.{} It sends a message to those who would prey on innocent victims in their homes.{} A rock solid case was made by the Etowah County Sherriff's Department and the defendant didn't have much of a choice when it got to be time for the case to be brought before the jury."

{}According to the terms of the plea,{} Whitmore waived any right to appeal his conviction.
