Auburn close to deal to play MTSU in Birmingham in 2016

AUBURN - AL — Auburn and Middle Tennessee are taking their series on the road.The schools have agreed in principle to a three-game basketball series which includes neutral site trips to Nashville and Birmingham.The Daily News Journal in Murfreesboro, Ten. reports that MTSU will travel to Auburn Arena in 2014, the teams will play in Nashville in 2015 and in Birmingham in 2016.The Tigers and Blue Raiders are expected to play at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville in 2015 and at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center in 2016."You know we are just working every day on trying to get BCS schools in a home-and-home situation," MTSU coach Kermit Davis told The Daily News Journal, "but there is just nobody with any interest in coming to Murfreesboro right now. We are trying like heck. But what we are trying to do next is getting as many opportunities as we can to play SEC-type schools on neutral floors."Auburn hasn't played in Birmingham since Dec. 5, 2007 when it lost to West Virginia in the Big East/SEC Invitational.
