Auburn could be near full strength against Ole Miss (Malzahn news conference video)

Head coach Gus Malzahn said Tuesday that his Auburn team could be near full strength for the Tigers game against Ole Miss Saturday. (

Health is happiness for the Auburn Tigers who seem to be on the mend.

The team could have five key defensive players back from injury and in uniform against Ole Miss this Saturday. Defensive back Chris Davis and defensive lineman Craig Sanders practiced last week after both missed Auburn's game at LSU.

Defensive back Jonathan Jones, and defensive linemen Jeffrey Whitaker and Keymiya Harrell could make their season debuts against the Rebels.

"We're planning on everybody to be out there," Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said in reference to Tuesday's practice.

Auburn is ranked 13th out of 14 teams in the SEC in total defense. The Tigers have allowed 439.5 yards a game and Malzahn says injuries have been a factor in the defensive struggles.

"We've had some big blows defensively as far as injuries go," Malzahn said. "Any time that happens, especially to impact players, and some of them are definitely impact players, you've got to mix and match. Hopefully, we'll stay healthier moving forward and we'll get some stability and improve."

Auburn plays Ole Miss Saturday night at Jordan Hare Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
