Auburn merchandise business hoping new coach brings new customers
Inside the J and M Bookstore near Auburn's campus, owner Trey Johnston is getting ready.
"I'm on the bus with Gus," he said.
He's excited for new head football coach, Gus Malzahn. He's also excited for a clean slate and for new Malzahn merchandise.
"We got some shirts coming in," he said.
And it's not just to stock the shelves. It's for the fans who, he says, are demanding it.
"We got people coming in all the time wanting stuff like that," he said. "I had about three requests yesterday."
He says with Auburn's latest, losing season, his business took a hit.
But more than good business, Johnston and others are looking for a good season next year. And they're excited what Malzahn brings to the table.
"I like his offense," Ernie Cope said. "I like his style and I think he'll bring good recruits in and I think he'll win."
"I like his style of offense," Josh Barrentine said. "Like, back in the championship season, I liked our fast-paced offense. It kept the other defense on edge, to me."
Johnston calls Malzahn a good, fair pick as someone who can win and get the program back on track.
"He's going to be a good hire for Auburn right now and about as quick a turnaround as you can get because we'll be ready to take on those Tide guys next year now," Johnston said.
