Auburn president Jay Gogue preparing to fire Gene Chizik?

Auburn President Jay Gogue has reportedly been making preparations to remove Gene Chizik as the Tigers' head football coach. (

According to a report by Phillip Marshall of, Auburn president Jay Gogue has informed some members of the Board of Trustees that he is making preparations to possibly fire head football coach Gene Chizik.

Marshall writes in his report, "Auburn president Jay Gogue has told some members of the Board of Trustees he is making preparations to possibly replace head football coach Gene Chizik, multiple sources confirm. "Gogue also told the trustees to whom he talked that he plans to retain athletics director Jay Jacobs and reassign executive associate athletics director Tim Jackson, who oversees football." Chizik is in his fourth season at Auburn, and is just two years removed from a BCS National Championship, but the Tigers are having one of their worst seasons in school history this year.{} Auburn is currently 2-7 and there appears to only be one realistic win left on the schedule for Chizik and company -- a home game against Alabama A&M on November 17.

Chizik's is under contract through the 2015 season, and if he is dismissed, Auburn would owe him a $7.5 million buyout, payable over the next three years.
