Auburn basketball has dismissed guard Shaq Johnson for violating team rules.
He was arrested and charged with second degree possession of marijuana last weekend in Auburn. It's a misdemeanor charge.
"We hold our student-athletes to a high standard at Auburn University in the way that they conduct themselves off the court," coach Tony Barbee said in a news release. "I am very disappointed in Shaq's choices and actions, and they won't be tolerated. This decision is not one that I take lightly, but it is in the best interest of both the program and the student-athlete."
Johnson averaged 6.2 points a game last season.
He appeared to be in line to be Auburn's starting off-guard this season. Johnson started 21 games last season and coach Barbee had been impressed with his off season weight training.
