Barbara Walters to Retire Next Year

Next Summer, a legendary journalist will be absent from TV news.

Tomorrow on The View, Barbara Walters will officially announce her retirement. Walters tweeted the news Sunday night.{}

She's been with ABC News for 37 years.{} She joined the network back in 1976 as an anchor on ABC's "Evening News".{} Walters was the first female on an evening news program.

Walters plans to continue anchoring and reporting for ABC news, appearing on "The View", and will anchor specials throughout the year.

She will remain an executive producer on "The View".
