Barons' Johnson picks up Southern League best 8th win

Erik Johnson picked up his Southern League best eighth win of the season as the Birmingham Barons beat Jackson 1-0.

The game was called in the 6th inning because of rain.

Johnson (8-2, 2.23) pitched the entire way for his third complete game and first shutout of the season.

Birmingham scored the games only run in the first inning when Andy Wilkins doubled to drive in Trayce Thompson.

The Barons finish the first half of the Southern League season 44-26, which is their fourth-best half over the past 22 seasons.

The team is off Tuesday before starting a five game series at Mississippi on Wednesday.
