Barons, North Division fall in Southern League All-Star Game

The Birmingham Barons had a share of ups and downs in the Southern League All-Star Game.Barons pitcher Cody Winiarski was the losing pitcher in the South Division's 6-4 win over the North Division in the game played at AT&T Field in Chattanooga, Ten. Winiarski gave up two runs and four hits in his only inning of work. He gave up a home run to Mississippi's Mycal Jones.Birmingham outfielders Josh Richmond and Michael Earley had one hit a piece, and Richmond drove in the South Division's first run in the fourth inning. Both players also produced highlight reel plays in the field. Richmond robbed Montgomery's Ryan Brett with a diving catch to finish the top of the fourth. Earley had a diving catch to take away an extra base hit off the bat of Pensacola's Yorman Rodriguez in the eighth.Richmond was 1-for-4 with a strikeout and Earley was 1-for-2 with a strikeout. Barons catcher Kevan Smith was 0-for-3 and outfielder Trayce Thompson was 0-for-1 with a walk.Birmingham begins the second half of the Southern League season Thursday at Jacksonville.
