Bessemer man convicted of beating his 4-year-old stepson to death

BESSEMER, Ala. -- A Bessemer man was convicted by a jury Thursday morning of felony murder in the December 2010 beating death of his stepson.

After nearly three days of deliberations, a jury found 37-year-old Jeremy Coleman guilty of beating to death Marcus Hill, who was a 3-year-old special needs student.{} He was originally charged with capital murder.During Coleman's trial, which began on Mar. 3, defense attorneys argued that the boy was injured in a fall down the stairs in November of 2010. Information regarding a sentencing date wasn't immediately made available.
