Food pantry at Salvation Army in Bessemer is empty

The Salvation Army community center in Bessemer is asking for help stocking their empty food pantry.{} Personnel says that an average of 50-60 families in the area seek food assistance every month.{} Most of them have small children.{} This month, a depleted food pantry means families could be turned away.{} Each year, thousands of pounds of food are distributed, but due to recent low donation numbers, they will not be able to distribute food until their inventory is refilled.{} Items needed are canned goods such as soups, meats, fruits, vegetables and tomato sauces.{} Other items are dry goods such as rice, instant potatoes, pasta, peanut butter and breakfast items. Monetary donations are also being accepted.{} If you would like to make a donation, you can drop them off at 525 13th St. North in Bessemer.{} Donation drop-offs are accepted Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.{} For more information, call (205) 425-4303.
