Bethel AME church in Ensley celebrates 125 years

Bethel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) church in Ensley celebrated 125 years today.

Pastor Gloria Hall says the church still holds much significance it did in the past. It started as a bush arbor back in 1889, but was destroyed by a fire in the 1930's.

"It's been a deep trust and belief in God. Look at where the church is located," says Hall.

Headstart programs were held at the church along with mass meetings during the civil rights movement.

As they celebrated a milestone in service today, Hall and members of the church hope to continue the legacy of the church. "I will worship until Jesus comes back," says Hall.{}
