Birmingham fourth-graders to read "The Watsons Go To Birmingham"

Fourth graders at Birmingham City Schools will read the novel, "The Watsons Go to Birmingham," this upcoming school year.

The project is the result of a partnership between the city, Birmingham City Schools and the Birmingham Library Board. The novel chronicles a family's trip to Birmingham in 1963 when the 16th Street Baptist Church was bombed

Furthermore, Birmingham will host the first screening of the film, "The Watsons Go to Birmingham," September 12 at 6 p.m. at the Alabama Theater.{}The film's creator Tonya Lewis Lee, who is also director Spike Lee's wife, will be in town for the screening.

The film will also air on television on the Hallmark Channel September 20.
