Birmingham Airport Authority releases modernization project documents, contracts

The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport terminal modernization project.

The Birmingham Airport Authority released contracts and reports in relation to the $201 million terminal modernization project at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport Wednesday night.

The documents were released after the Alabama Media Group filed suit against the airport authority alleging they were violating the Open Meetings Act by withholding terminal construction records.

The authority continues to investigate what caused a Multiple User Flight Information Display System to fall on March 22, killing a 10-year-old boy from Kansas and injuring three of his family members. The group's president, Al Denson, reported on April 4 that safety concerns were raised by members of the construction team prior to the accident.

Included in the released items is the final contracts with the project manager at risk, the joint-ventured company of Brasfield & Gorrie and BLOC Global Services Group, the architect firm of KPS Group Inc. and the construction manager A.G. Gaston Construction Company.

Also released were 14 monthly status reports from Brasfield & Gorrie/BLOC beginning in February 2011.
