It's that time of year!
Baseball's opening day is right around the corner. And downtown, the Birmingham Baron's hope to build on a championship season. That season was the first in their new home Regions Field.
When you set Southern League attendance records and bring home the hardware, you must be doing something right.
The Barons are looking to improve though this season.
They want to continue to enhance the fan experience. They plan on improving the concession service from last season. Also, they want to make sure parking is not an issue.
They have many of the same parking lots secured from last year. Many of the lots weren't even half full on game days and nights.
Barons general manager Jonathan Nelson says they can't wait to get the 2014 season started.
"We're in game mode already," says Nelson. "We've hosted several other UAB baseball games already. The field, our staff, is in that mindset. We're definitely honing our skills and mindset to get ready for the season."
Right now, work continues at Regions Field, prepping the playing field for the upcoming exhibition game with the Chicago White Sox on March 28. That game is a sell out.
The home opener for the Barons is Wednesday, April 9 against Jacksonville. That game is at 7:05 PM.
