Birmingham celebrates "March on Washington" anniversary
As the nation celebrates the 50th anniversary of the historic "March on Washington" Wednesday in Washington D.C., many people chose to reflect on the historic moment in Birmingham, Ala.
Dozens of people, of all races and ages, walked through popular landmarks, including Kelly Ingram Park, the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.
ABC 33/40 spoke with two people who participated in demonstrations 50 years ago. Walter Whitlow and Clifton Casey, also known as "foot soldiers," say the nation has made great progress since that time but there's still more work to do.
The city of Birmingham also participated in a social media effort geared toward honoring the march's legacy on Twitter.@
