Birmingham city council no compromise on new budget

Monday brought yet another time for Birmingham Mayor William Bell and city councilors to find middle ground on{} a new city budget.

The budget is already 16 days over-due, and it appears as though the group is back to the drawing board when it comes to finalizing it. Ahead of a budget talk, which took place Monday at City Hall, Mayor Bell expressed optimism that the Council would find a compromise on the two competing budgets. That agreement did not occur, and Mayor Bell plans to re-submit his budget to the Council in two weeks.

The main points of contention center on some $500,000 he wants to dedicate to expanding the staff at the Crossplex, as well as a breakdown of percent increases for city workers.
