Birmingham commemorates 12 year anniversary of September 11th
In a touching ceremony at Kelly Ingram Park Wednesday, the City of Birmingham honored those who lost their lives 12 years ago today.
"We have been faced with many terrible tragedies," said Birmingham Mayor William Bell. "Whether you talk about the bombing of Pearl Harbor or the bombing of 16th Street Baptist Church or the bombing of the World Trade Center."
During the service, Birmingham firefighters honored the 343 firemen who died September 11th.
"It was the men and women in uniform who instead of running away from danger ran to danger," said Mayor Bell.
The Birmingham commemoration was one of many throughout the Birmingham metro area.
