Birmingham council delays action on mayor's proposed bond referendum

Birmingham city council seems to be in no rush to give Mayor William Bell what he wants.{} Council delayed, for another week, any action on Bell's proposed $150 million{}bond referendum.

The item would have required unanimous consent to pass.{} Three council members voted no and a fourth was absent.{}

Bell wants the referendum October 9th.

Here are the sticking points:{}a majority of council wants more input on what projects are included, and council members expect to hold city-wide public hearings.{} Bell says half of the money would be spent now on city projects.{} The rest would be reserved for future use.
