      Firefighter injured while working house fire in East Birmingham (Update)

      The Birmingham Fire Department is working a house fire in East Birmingham Wednesday afternoon.

      Fire and Rescue workers were called to the home on 923 39th Street North shortly before 4 p.m. today. Upon arriving, firefighters reported fire and smoke showing from the two-story structure.

      It is unknown at this time if the house was occupied.

      ABC 33/40 has a crew at the scene and we will provide updates as information becomes available.

      Update:

      Birmingham Fire dispatch has confirmed that one firefighter has been injured while working a house fire on 39th Street North.

      The fireman sustained a shoulder injury after a pipe fell on him while battling the blaze. He was taken to the hospital where he is expected to make a full recovery.

      Firefighters have since put out the fire, but the residents, a family of five, are now without a place to stay.
