Update:Birmingham Fire Chief C.W. Mardis tells ABC 33/40 that a side wall of the building collapsed, and that the rest of the building may need to come down. He also says there were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.


The Birmingham Fire Department is working a 3 alarm commercial fire.

It started around 11:30 Friday morning at 1811 1st Avenue North.{} That's located next to the MAXX bus station in downtown Birmingham.

Fire officials on the scene say smoke can be seen coming from the 3 story building.
