Birmingham high school students volunteer for Toys for Tots

Approximately 50 Birmingham high school students gave theirtime Thursday to make Christmas a little brighter for more than 1,000 families.

The Birmingham Education Foundation partnered withYouthServe to promote student leadership.

Students from Parker, Jackson-Olin, Wenonah and Woodlawnplaced hundreds of toys in bags for Toys for Tots at downtown Birmingham's YMCAYouth Center.

"What I hope is I hope that our students realize how muchpower they have to make a difference even at a young age and how powerful they arewhen they work together," said J.W. Carpenter, executive director, BirminghamEducation Foundation. "I believe that's what they are seeing today."

Other work sites through the partnership Thursday included The Greater Birmingham Humane Society and the Ronald McDonald House.
